Role of Lector
At Mass, one or more Lectors proclaim the first Reading, second reading, psalm, and prayer of the faithful, or some variation of the four.
In 1972, Pope Paul VI restored the role of Lector to the official status of ministry. In Ministeria Quaedam he writes, “Let the reader be aware of the office he/she has undertaken and make every effort and employ suitable means to acquire that increasingly warm and living love and knowledge of Scripture that will make him/her a more perfect disciple of the Lord.”
Any parishioner interested in lectoring at weekday or weekend Masses is asked to contact Father Morris at the rectory. Training is offered at different times during the year.
